New Year's Eve in Como, MS was a blast. What a GREAT Room! The Combination of the Memphis Sound Band and Southern Lights rocked 211 Main Street for a SOLD OUT crowd. The band began the night performing some standard classic tunes for some of the more 'sophisticated' crowd who were not sure that they were going to be able to make it all evening! "Don't Get Around Much Anymore", "Kansas City Here I Come", "Stand by Me", "The Way You Look Tonight" and other great hits of yesteryear were on the request list for those who danced with elegance!
The band's first set lasted over and hour and a half, first with the classic songs, and then moving into some Soul, R&B and sounds of Motown. The dance floor remained packed with high spirited revelers ready to ring in the new year! They even danced completely through the funky CD that was played during the bands ONLY intermission.
Promptly at 10:30 PM The Memphis Sound Band hit the stage with their Trademarked presentation of Memphis Music: "Hound Dog", "Whole Lotta Shakin'", "Knock On Wood", "Dock of the Bay", "Mustang Sally", and many, many more! Several times during the night the Sold Out crowd joined in and sang in chorus to the hits that they knew VERY well! And they could sing! Song after song, the crowd danced and sang while the band performed more great Memphis hits including: "Soul Man", "Let's Stay Together", "Ain't No Sunshine", and "Hard to Handle."
As the Midnight hour was drawing nigh and 2004 was about to become a memory, the band raised the energy level one more time with everyone's funky favorites, including "Brick House", "Play that Funky Music", "Word Up", "That's the Way I Like It", and even Lenny Kravitz' "Fly Away." Prince's 1999 had everyone partying when the final countdown began, and one again the crowd joined in as 2004 exited and 2005 opened a new slate! After the customary "Auld Lang Syne" there was more live funky music and dancing until 12:30 AM when the bands 2 HOUR SET came to a close! But the crowd, not quite ready to call it a night, requested more and danced until about 1:30 AM!
Thank you Como, MS for a great night! Special thanks go to the Como Steakhouse and 211 Main Street, who treated everyone so well! The Como Steakhouse is a great little steakhouse just a few doors down from 211 Main Street, the performance venue. The food is great, as is the service! The two are a great combination - A great meal and a great room for special events! Well cooked, well managed, and just plain fun. Thanks to all, and especially to our fans who made the road trip!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
